Welcome from the principal

Dear Collins Families,

My name is Jena Lenz and I am excited and honored to introduce myself as Collins’ new elementary school principal.  I am delighted to be joining this family known to have a strong dedication to excellence, but more importantly, to children.  I look forward to partnering with you in continuing the path of academic growth and guidance that has historically been a foundation of Collins.

Having been in the field of education for seventeen years and serving in an administrative capacity for seven of those years, I am eager to work alongside each of you to promote student success.  I currently hold a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and a Master’s in Educational Leadership, both from Oakland University.  I had the pleasure of completing my student teaching within the district before taking an elementary teaching assignment.  I have taught at various grade levels then moved into the role of a Curriculum Director and Assistant Principal.  Within these roles, I became well versed in the areas of curriculum, instruction, and assessment.

Personally, I have been married to my extremely supportive husband, Chris for fifteen years.  We have two amazing children.  My oldest son, Austin, is a twelve-year old whose love of sports can only be matched to my own.  Ryan is a nine-year old who enjoys building, baseball, and is the one who keeps me young.  Being a graduate of Utica Community Schools and having two children of my own within the district provides me with much anticipation for our journey together.

My primary goal is to partner with you to continue to provide our children with a safe, successful, and spectacular learning environment.  I am dedicated to build on the strong relationships among staff, families, and students that have made Collins the outstanding community it is today.  I am confident that together we will continue to promote a culture that is built on meeting the needs of our learners, as well as working together to encourage critical thinking, comprehension, and curiosity.

I would like each of you to enjoy the rest of your vacation and make some remarkable memories with family and friends.  I am looking forward to meeting you and your children as we begin our educational journey together.  Please feel free to stop by the office beginning mid-August for a cup of coffee or tea so I may introduce myself.

Educationally Yours,

Jena Lenz, Principal
Collins Elementary School
